DDD Trek: VII – Relationships Matter

(This is a re-post from my LinkedIn page in 2019.)

DDD Trek Part 7: Relationships matter. Not just of concepts, but also of people. Today’s trek is in this softer set of skills.

Where do quality ideas come from? How do we sort through the facts and options better? Stevie Wonder often says “Team work makes the dream work.” How does this work in DDD?

Parts 1 through 6 gave you why we need this step and how to technically think through maps and models. Knowing when to model may even come naturally. All important.

Knowing what to model, though, is critical. That is what takes people relating together in common cause. Sounds obvious but there are challenges to manage.

– Personal Bias: How are we blocking conversation via preference?

– False Assumptions: Are we encouraging tougher questions to dig further?

– Conflict: Do we really clear the air first to remove the distraction?

– Freedom: Do we enjoy seeing three or more potential solutions – not inspired by us?

Relationships and their context, health and Agility play a big role in mining for critical knowledge.

Managing relationships well, we can achieve more.
